If you’re anything like me, you probably spend more time than you should on social media. Instagram is my personal favorite, and if I’m not careful, I can spend hours scrolling through the feeds of friends and strangers alike. What can I say? I’m a sucker for a pretty picture and a funny meme.
But, when I want to feel inspired and empowered, there are few accounts I regularly visit. Here are some of my favorite girl power Instagram accounts.
The Female Hustlers “empower babes who want to rule this whole damn world.” Their motivational quotes always give me good pick-me-up and remind me to keep on keepin’ on. They also have a great website with blog posts, merchandise, and amazing book recommendations.
Tone It Up (TIU) is primarily a fitness community for women, but I’ve come to realize that it’s actually so much more than that. In addition to workout routines, healthy recipes, and inspirational quotes, the TIU Founders, Karena & Katrina, and the entire TIU community, use Instagram to support one another while they work on being their best selves. They encourage self-care for the body, mind and spirit, and it doesn’t hurt that most of their pics are set in beautiful, sunny California.
Last year, I read The Feminist Fight Club by Jessica Bennet, and it quickly became one of my go-to recommendations for women who want real talk on how to deal with the challenges of being a woman in the workplace. It’s a quick read that will make you laugh, while also giving you the tools you need to fight back against the systemic biases that hold women back. The Instagram feed will give you a quick reminder of some of the rules of the Fight Club (first and foremost, you MUST talk about the fight club!), while also reminding you to go out and kick butt today.
This is one of my favorite career websites, so it’s no surprise that I’m a fan of their Instagram as well. It’s colorful, motivational, and informative, all while being entertaining.
I Am That Girl is a non-profit that provides leadership, social, and personal development programming to high school and college girls. They’ve built an amazing community and are helping to change the standards by which girls and women are judged. Their Instagram is a powerful reminder that you are powerful, you are strong and you are that girl you wish to be.
