Dressing For the Job You Want

You’ve probably heard the expression, “Dress for the job you want.” I rarely put a lot of stock into adages like these, but it turns out there might actually be something to this. A recent study by a professor at the Yale School of Management found that how employees dressed made a difference in how they performed at work. Those who wore more formal business attire projected more confidence, were more respected, and engaged in higher level abstract thinking than those who dressed more casually. I guess they don’t call it a power suit for nothing.

From a personal perspective, I know that when I dress up at work, I always feel more productive and ready to tackle tough projects. Something about well fitted, business attire puts an extra pep in my step and makes me feel more prepared to take on the world.

Now that summer is ending and fall is upon is, it’s a great time to give your closet a makeover and pick pieces that make you look polished and professional, but most importantly make you feel good. If you hate shopping, you can rely on companies like Stitch Fix or MM. LaFleur to curate your work outfits and ship them directly to your doorstep.

If you’re looking for inspiration, below are some my favorite “dress for success” looks that are good for girl bosses of all kinds, regardless of how formal or casual an environment you’re in.
