It looks like it’s finally Spring here in New York City! The sun is shining, there’s not a cloud in the sky, and I’m wearing ONE light jacket instead of layer upon layer of clothing. This time of year always puts a little extra pep in my step and motivates me to get around to doing those little tasks I always manage to avoid.
To prep for a great Spring, I’m engaging in a full on Spring Cleaning. This includes taking some extra time to organize my files at work, throw out any extra paper that adds nothing but clutter, refresh my office supplies, donate any old office clothes and buy myself a new set of staple items, and update my diet and fitness routines.
Spring cleaning sounds cliche, but it comes with some proven benefits. Tidying up your space can help you to be more productive and work more efficiently. A clear desk can often lead to clear thoughts. Not to mention, a neat office makes a much more favorable impression when your boss or clients walk into your office.
Likewise, any little bit of organization at home can help you feel more together and less anxious and stressed. One thing I’ve added at home is a meal calendar that I prepare on Sundays for the whole week. It takes a little bit of extra time on the front end, but it makes grocery shopping simpler (and less expensive) and gives me one less thing to think about during a busy week. I do it the old school way on a piece of paper, but there are also apps to help you with your meal planning.
Ultimately, my goal is to be my best self as often as I can, understanding that some days (like yesterday) will be filled with french fries and TV. But going through the Spring Cleaning ritual will help set me up for success heading into summer.
What are some of the ways you prepare for Spring?
