Spotlight: Emma Watson

If you’re a Harry Potter fan (and who isn’t?) then you are familiar with one of its stars, Emma Watson. If you’ve followed her career after finishing the Harry Potter series, then you know that she’s been using her platform to advocate for women’s equality around the world. In 2014, she was named a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador and helped to launch a campaign of which I’m a HUGE fan called, HeForShe, which seeks to engage men to become champions for gender equality. She’s given speeches at the UN and all over the world advocating on behalf of women regarding important issues like education for girls, sexual assault, and domestic violence.  She is known for hiding feminist books in subway stations in New York and London as part of a project called Our Shared Shelf, a book club that brings together women from all over the world to share thoughts and ideas based on that month’s book selection. She is a true leader in this space and is fighting the good fight. And for that, she gets this week’s Friday Spotlight!

If you have a few minutes, take a moment to watch her He For She speech at the UN. It’s beyond inspiring!
