When podcasts first came out, I was skeptical. I was never the biggest fan of talk radio and podcasts just seemed like its fancy cousin. My music playlist was filled with solid jams that I could listen to on my commutes to and from work and podcasts just weren’t going to make the cut. Until…Serial. A murder mystery so engaging, I couldn’t wait a whole week to find out what happened next. Suddenly, podcasts didn’t seem like such a bad idea, and today, I’m subscribed to 15 of them, all of which I listen to regularly.
My podcast subscriptions are all over the map, but I love those that leave me feeling empowered and motivated the most. If you’re looking for a bit of inspo yourself, here are a few of my very favorites:
On this weekly podcast, the original #girlboss, Sophia Amoruso, interviews a woman who has made her mark in business, government, media, you name it! She tracks their careers from their very first jobs to the present, and it’s always fascinating to hear how these remarkable women have created their career paths and succeeded on their own terms.
Million$ is a bi-weekly Forbes podcast that features women entrepreneurs who are kicking ass and taking names in the business world. Host, Claire O’Connor, a Forbes journalist, dives into how women found – and fund – their businesses. Although I doubt I will ever venture into starting a business, I’m always impressed with how women come up with their million dollar ideas and then hustle, hustle, hustle to make them a reality.
If you ever just need a 20 minute pick-me-up, a boost of “I can do this!”, then this is the podcast for you. Leigh Ghallager, Assistant Managing Editor at Fortune and co-chair of Most Powerful Women, interviews women leaders in virtually all industries. Each sessions is filled with advice, motivation, and some humor. Even when I’ve never heard of the interviewee, I always leave wanting to know more about her.
This is a newer addition to my roster, and so far I’m really enjoying it. This podcast is a conversation about women, the workplace and success. In each 20 minute episode, host Ashley Milne-Tyte, explores some of the daily issues we all face at work- effective communication, harassment, and competition, to name a few. It’s definitely going to make you pause and think, but also help you realize that, girl- you’re not alone and it’s not just happening to you.
This is for all of you fellow Real Housewives addicts. If you like the Real Housewives and you enjoy laughing, you MUST subscribe to this podcast immediately. Casey Wilson and Danielle Schnieder irreverently break down every Real Housewives franchise, episode by episode, and it is SO funny. I cannot recommend this podcast enough because sometimes you just need to zone out and have yourself a really good time. This really makes me love Thursdays more than any other day of the week.
These are just a handful of my faves, but I’d love to hear what you all listen to when you want to feel inspired or just have a good laugh. Leave your recs in the comments, and don’t forget to follow The Girl Power Code on Instagram!
